Dear friend,
God, the Mighty Creator, is a holy God and perfectly righteous in all His Word and works. He cannot stand the sight of sin knowing all the evil implications of it. He must destroy and banish all evil far from Him and from all His beloved ones.
That God forgives us of our sins does not mean that He tolerated our sins and allowed them to be there without punishing us for them. Often, that's what we are interested in - we would get rid of the consequences of sins, but not the pleasures of sins. We think a kind and loving God would let us have the latter without the former. But that is not what the pardoning of our iniquities and sins is all about.
".. he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea." (Mic. 7:19) In pardoning us for Christ's sake, God shows us His compassion toward us by getting rid of all the harmful effects of sins against us. The pleasures of sin are all part of that evil effects of sin against us. We are foolish to enjoy and crave for them. God forgives us and starts to transform us in such a remarkable way that what was once a pleasure becomes an abhorrence. A new taste is given to us so that we begin more and more to enjoy those things which are from above and which will count for eternity.
Indeed, "Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile." (Psa. 32:1, 2)
Can a person who shows himself more deceiving be getting nearer Heaven?
