Dear friend,
How does it feel like to be forsaken? The opposite is to be accepted. When we are accepted we feel comforted and assured in our present condition - at least we are not alone in our present predicament. To be forsaken is to have lesser support so that one feels lonelier and more uncomfortable in his present condition. Our Lord Jesus felt that His God had forsaken Him as He hang there on the Cross dying - "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" (Mat. 27:46)
All through His 33.5 years, He had enjoyed sweet fellowship and communion with His God and Heavenly Father. How wonderfully close they were to each other as He, in the garden of Gethsemane, prayed, "Father, ... thy Son .. O Father, .. Holy Father ... Thou hast loved me .. O righteous Father .. I know Thee and declare thy Name ..". (Joh. 17) Then, suddenly Jesus, on the Cross, felt forsaken! Where is the "Father"? Even the term "God" seems so far away. The mid-day sun had never been so dark before. The wrath of God against sin is so horribly dark and frightening. It was all hell broke loosed!
No man suffered like this man. "Christ hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God." (1Pe. 3:18) Because of our sins, He went to hell for us. From now onward, we believers have no business to entertain sins. Sin shall no more have dominion over us. "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." (1Pe. 2:24) He was forsaken that we might be received and accepted in righteousness and live. Now, we have all the reasons to "live unto righteousness".
