Dear friend,
When we say that something is in someone's hand, we mean that he can do as He pleases with that thing. "My times are in thy hand" (Psa. 31:15) means that whatever is to become of us, for good or for bad, God Almighty is in full control and determination. I thank God for my recent, personal experience of what that mean.
On the 21st February, 2008 (15th day of Chinese New Year), I was scheduled for a heart biopsy to determine its strength in view of possible liver transplant in the near future. I was told that the risk of something going wrong is such a day-operation was 0.5 - 1 percent. In the Providence of God, I was named among those whose lives became threatened in the operating theater because of internal bleeding. Thank God that the bleeding did stop and, after more than a week, I am now regaining strength again. For most of us, there is a time to die, and, on hind sight, my time could have been the 21st February, but I was not expecting it. The Lord had revealed that that was not to be my time yet.
Let us be humble and thankful always for every day that He gave us to enjoy in this life. He provides for us by big or by small, but His portion is always the best and we should learn to trust Him, yet more and more. He asked the ravens and the widow of Zarephath to feed Elijah, His servant and they obeyed to do the impossible. (1Ki. 17:2-4, 8, 9) All God's servants must learn to be like Elijah - faithful to do His bidding and leave the care of himself to His Master.
So our Lord told us "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things." (Mat. 6:25, 32) When we start to worry about such things, we lose focus on His Word and become vain in our imaginations. We begin to lust like worldlings and become dissatisfied easily, full of complaints all our days.
We must learn to "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." (Pro. 3:5, 6)
