Dear friend,
Here in this life we do experience sleep. In fact, everyday we are reminded to sleep even though many have not taken heed to the detriment of their own bodies. Sleep is a time of rest, a time of recuperation, so that we may be better prepared for the next day, another day of learning, trial and evaluation. But are God's people simply contented with these daily rests, even though they are certainly thankful?
"There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God." (Heb. 4:9) God's aging saints, waiting for the Glory of God, are happy to be in God's House every Lord's Day. No day in every week is better than that day, in this life, as they are given a foretaste of Heaven on that day. Yet, they still know that here, in this life, the enemies continue to wage wars against them, even though they fail each time to fall the wall of our Salvation in Christ. They know that there is a place awaiting them, where "the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest. There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor." (Job. 3:17)
So, the passing into glory of a child of God in this world is not something to be resisted at all costs and by all means, but "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; they ... rest from their labours; and their works do follow them." (Rev. 14:13)
All God's children die in hope for something better. Here we are not talking about some wishful thinking and longing for something without any faith in God's certain Word. Some catch a good glimpse of that land before they go there, while others can hardly see it for one reason or another. But, they all "with patience wait for it." (Rom. 8:25)
