Dear friend,
Jesus Christ is the Son of God by nature, we are children of God by adoption.
Indeed, without us, God has legally change our status from "condemned sinners" to "blessed children of God" only for the sake of His Son, Jesus Christ.
But the experiences of the children of God in this world is not without the Spirit of adoption. This is the Spirit of the Son of God, Who is the Spirit of the Resurrected Christ. This Spirit witness to our spirit that we are the children of God, even though "it does not yet appear what we shall be". As "children of God", the Spirit would work within us to sanctify us and make us more Christlike.
That is what is meant by Christ being the "firstfruit". He is the proto-type, the pattern for the "children of God". So, we shall one day see Him and be like Him. What a blessed thought!
Since it is God's revealed will that we as "children of God" should be like Christ, praying for it should be something which delight our Heaven Father to hear from His adopted children. When was the last time we pray to be Christlike? What were the last five things we were requesting our Heavenly Father to bestow upon us? Why? Was God very pleased with what we were asking for?
Our outward man perishes no matter how much care we may give attention to it, but the inner man is renewed day by day. How, if we are more concerned about our outward appearance than the adorning of the inner man?

The best things in life are free. Men repackage, sell and devalue them. The priceless are received free. Never despise all free things offered. Some of them are priceless.
"Almighty and ever-living God, Who hast predestined unto glory a Church elected in Christ, we thy unworthy servants, in communion with the Church Triumphant above, continue to beseech Thee for the increase of Thy Holy Spirit in us, that being grounded in the abiding Baptism of Pentecost, assured of the triumphant advance of the Gospel, armed with the Sword of the Spirit, that is, Thy most holy Word and looking for the great and glorious appearing of the Son of Man, our blessed hope: the militant Church here on earth, the pillar and ground of the Truth, would ever contend for the faith once for all delivered unto the saints for the gathering, defence and preservation of the same Catholic Church in all ages; through the one and only Intercession of Our Lord Jesus. Amen" - Jason Loh of Penang.

Yours for Christ's Kingdom,
