Dear friend,
Love gives all for the interest of the one loved. This is how love shows itself to us. God is love. "For God so loved ... that He gave his only begotten Son, .." Jesus said, "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father." (Joh 14:9)
When Jesus loves, He lay down His life for us, His enemies. This meant that He had to leave Heaven's glory for the curse of this world, suffered all through his blessed life under the hands of unworthy sinnerss and died the accursed death of the Cross, having been falsely accused. He did that wilingly and lovingly that the penalty of our sins might be discharged at the Tribunal of God. He bore our sins upon His own body.
Christians are people born of that love of God. So, we love Him because He first loved us. Loving Him we love also His image in which man was created. Thus we love ourselves and our neighbours as image-bearers of God. There is this potential in every human being - to bear the glorious image of God. We love to that end. We keep the Ten Commandments because we love God and man.
When we love we must give of ourselves for the interest of the other party. We must know what truly constitute their interest and pursue that in our giving. In order to give we must first be forgiven and learn to forgive having being forgiven of God. This is a humbling experience necessary for a loving life.
The more we look to Christ, the more we will be like Him. He said, "I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you."
Let us wash one another's feet in true brotherly love.
