Comment on Evening October 08 of "Daily Light on Daily Path"

 

 

Dear friend,

 

To believe in something is to have faith and confidence in that thing. Every day we exercise our faith in things and people around us without thinking much about it. We take things for granted and move on. We trust (the exercise of faith) that the bus driver knows his way and is sober enough to drive (as he ought to) and so we board it to get to our destination. We pull out a chair to sit on it believe that it will hold up our weight. We consider it a disordet when someone cannot trust in anything and anyone and have to check and recheck on them before relating to them. The exercise of faith and confidence is important if life is to move on meaningfully.

 

The natural, physical world, with its consistent natural laws governing its every object, does provide an environment where beliefs and trust can develop. A world of chaos, with all its unpredictables, can only fester distrust and impossible situations to deal with one another. This world is not chaotic in the eyes of God Who knows all things in all their details. But in the eyes of limited beings, like us human beings, it often appears chaotic with free beings opposing the true orderliness of things.

 

For the blessed people of God, He "set my feet upon a rock." The faith of God's people is set upon the unmoveable rock. This means that their faith can never be misplaced. It also means that they can walk confidently knowing that God would never allow them to be confounded. For us believers, that unshakable Rock is none other than our Lord Jesus Christ. So firm is an edifice built upon this Rock that "the gates of hell shall not prevail against it". The Church (and even the whole universe), which is founded upon this eternal Word of God, even the voice of the Son of God, is a place where her members walk by this assuring faith confidently. There is nothing wavering. The people there are sure of the love of God in Jesus Christ, come what may.

 

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (Joh 16:33; 14:27)

 

The question is not, do you have faith, but, where do you place your faith in?
