Comment on Morning December 12
Is it not a great thing to know that God is for us? There are much conflicts in this life, and often, sooner or later, we always have to wonder if we are right or the other person is. Thus, in this world there are so many meetings for the purpose of working things out just because there are so many disagreements all around us imperfect beings. To show that we are right we often try to gather as many people who support our views as much as possible and to make sure that our voices are heard. Some with few supporters would try to speak the loudest giving the impression that there are much people with them. Number plays a very important part is such enterprises. But quality of supporters are also very important to persuade people that you are right. So in the recent reports on Global Climate Change we see most scientists come forth to affirm that man is the culprit for such a serious change upon our Earth, that the world leaders are now paying careful attention to the matter One expert voice ought to outweigh many ordinary voices. But this is not always the case with foolish men.
Christians are wise people. So, who is the expert whom they would wish to rally to their side? Is it not God the Almighty, Creator and Upholder of all things? If God be for us, who can be against us, but those who are foolish and ignorant? But how can we be sure that He is for us? Hear what Moses, the man of God, said: "For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth." (Exo. 33:16) To find grace and favour in the sight of a person is to have his support. It is to have him on your side. Moses said to God that people will know that He is on their side when His presence goes with them on the way.
God is all the necessary equipment that a stranger and pilgrim would need on his very difficult journey. The ill-equipped pilgrim finds himself helpless and confused, without anything to refer to nor to use in time of troubles. The well-equipped are always thankful and amazed to find appropriate things which he has brought along, meeting the need of the hour. But to bring all useful and convenient tools along would indeed add on to the luggage, making the journey more difficult if not impossible. Better it would be to have a very useful guide who not only knows the way to the destination, but who is also able to make useful tools out of the surrounding things to meeting whatever difficult situation that may arise on the way. Such a guide is really all that a traveler needs. God is that Guide to us. So, Moses told God, "If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence." (Exo. 33:15) To lead a people of more than 2 million, as stubborn as the Jewish people, for 40 years, through the dry and thirsty desert, is no ordinary task for anyone. We cannot blame Moses, with all his training from Egypt, for not having any confidence in himself in this task. But with God by him as his Guide all the way, Moses was confident and did a good job
So God assures us: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." (Isa. 41:10)
His presence with us is until the end of the world. At the end this will be what we will hear: "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain." (Rev. 21:3, 4) The tabernacle of God speaks of His continual presence in our midst along the way, leading and guiding by day and by night!
Do you have a Guide? Who is He? How much time do you spend with Him along the way? Are you missing something?
