Comment on Evening March 27 of "Daily Light on Daily Path"

 

 

Dear friend,

 

In our Christian life, we are primarily dealing with God. and "God is faithful." (1Co. 10:13)

 

Can you imagine an unfaithful God governing this creation? Faithfulness speaks of being steadfast and immovable in what one has committed to do. God, infinitely wise as He is, has determined all things in His eternal counsel. What is all that, if He is not faithful to ensure that they all come to pass as He has determined and planned? For example, what if God is not faithful to maintain and uphold the innumerable laws that govern every creature of His? Scientific experimentation would be impossible and we would have no concept of trust, everything would be in chaos and fear would characterize our lives for ever.

 

Thank God that He "is not a man that he should lie; neither the Son of man that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? — The Lord sware and will not repent." (Num. 23:19; Heb. 7:21) This is particularly so in His promise to save us from our sins and miseries. In that matter, He went a step further to confirm His intention towards us.

 

"God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us." (Heb. 6:17, 18) The extra thing He did was to open His mouth and take an oath to save us. He needs not do that, but in His grace towards us He chooses to do that and binds Himself so that He would have sinned greatly against Himself should He fail to save us.  "Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator." (1Pe. 4:19)

 

Do you know that it is blasphemous to doubt His faithfulness and, worse yet, to suggest that He would break His vow towards us?

Dear friend,

 

We come into this world naked and shall return naked. This is an undeniable truth in the realm of material things, no matter what men may say to the contrary. So, they burn away what they claim they take away with them when they die. But, we know better than they: the material things were not taken away, not even their physical body which must be removed upon death.

 

Whatever we have right now in this life, they are all given to us by God's providence, whether we like it or not. They come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, pleasant or unpleasant, good or evil, et cetera. Whatever may be our physical condition, we do have the calling to live aright before God. We who are created after the image of God, are expected to know how to live within the means God has provided for us. It is immediately wrong and sinful to be dissatisfied with the providence of God, and to live a life of comparison and complaint. Rather, we should maintain the principle of life that is in Jesus Christ, our Lord, and live thankfully with whatever He is pleased to entrust us at every turn of life. "To him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward." (Pro. 11:18) What is right is righteousness.

 

In the busyness of our lives, we can easily forget that there is a day of accountability. But the Lord reminds us with this parable: "After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord." (Mat. 25:19-21) Whether we like it or not, we "must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad." (2Co. 5:10)

 

It is always wise for students to test themselves constantly in preparation for the day of examination. This is the conscientiousness in doing the homework given to them by their teachers who also assess their progress. We can be quite sure that students and teachers who do that prepared the former well for the final examination. The Holy Spirit of Truth is given to us to train and mold us for that day of accountability so that we may be able to say with the Apostle Paul, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." (2Ti. 4:7, 8)

 

Are you holding fast to the precious thing which you do now have? (Rev. 3:11)

Comment on Evening March 26 "Daily Light on Daily Path"

 

 

Dear friend,

 

According to our Lord, it is more blessed to give than to receive. So, would He rob us of the joy and blessing of giving? Of course, not. Therefore, even though He is able to supply all our needs without anyone else having to lift a little finger, He does not do so, but instead commands us to distribute "to the necessity of saints." (Rom. 12:13)

 

To know whether something is necessary, one must do some investigation. Often people ask for things they lust after and not because they truly need them. Giving such things to them is not necessary good for them as such giving gratifies their lusts and encourages them to lust further to the further hurt. So, true and proper giving is not as easy as one may think. God's Word never says that it is more blessed to give falsely and improperly than to receive. We live in the present world where there are abundance of unnecessary things and lots of wastage around, overtaxing the mother earth to our own hurt. Giving at such times may not be genuinely out of concern for others to the glory of God, but for self promotion and easy of one's own conscience for being lustful.

 

David is an Old Testament example of one who was proactive in his work of mercy towards Jonathan's family, as he had promised he would. "David said, Is there yet any that is left ... of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan's sake?" (2Sa. 9:1) When we are careful and know the right way to help the genuinely poor people, we should become more proactive to seek and help them out, especially in spiritual things.

 

The Kingdom of God is prepared for His blessed people who can see Christ in His suffering servants, and support them in kinds. "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (Mat. 25:34-36, 40)

 

God is very pleased to see His own Name glorified in the midst of His people. He would therefore want to see them taking care of each other sacrificially in His Name. "Whosoever shall give to drink one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward." (Mat. 10:42) "To do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased." (Heb. 13:`6)

 

Do you know the implication of God forgetting "your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister"? (Heb. 6:10)
